BASIC RUNDOWN
Cornelius Hickey is a sailor on HMS Terror, one of the ships that went missing during the famed Franklin Expedition. He's small, "Irish," fussy, and an absolute narcissist who thinks the world of himself. Having lived a hard life, he's focused on survival and getting what he feels he deserves by any means necessary. And if said means involve kidnapping a woman, staging a mutiny, or engaging in some cannibalism then so be it.

OOC RUNDOWN
Player: Kates (allikateor @ plurk)
Usual tagging times/pace: CST. I try to tag at least once per day, but will definitely tag at least every two or three days.
Backtagging: within reason! I'll happily tag back if you respond within two or so weeks of my last tag, but there's a chance that anything tagged back after two weeks will be dropped.
Fourthwalling policy: Yes for fourth-walling/mentioning the Franklin Expedition. No for fourth-walling/mentioning the show or the book The Terror specifically.
Action vs. Prose: Prose preferable, but flexible.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers: None of these outright trigger me, but I'd rather not deal with gratuitous descriptions of bodily functions (basically, don't lovingly describe your character's drool/vomit/bathroom stuff/etc.) as well as the death/serious injury of a child under 13.

IC INFO
Visual: Hickey seems like he's smaller than he actually is. He's got red hair and a red beard, styled in a way where it honestly looks a little supervillain. As he's from the 1840s, he tends towards an old-fashioned style of clothing (with the exception of Sing, where he dresses aggressively modern. 1840s ain't got Gore-Tex). He looks relatively well for someone who suffered through a horribly traumatic event—that damage is internal (and also on his ass), baby.
Vocal: Despite the fact that he says he's Irish, this man has an English accent. Here's how he talks!
Demeanor: LAZY. If Hickey doesn't have to do something, he'll try not to do it. He gives off a slightly slimy air, like he's trying very hard to be a person but something's just not right. But he'll happily chat with people and get along good with others. It's only when you start talking for a while that the bitterness seeps through: this is a man who feels he is destined for greater things than he's currently getting.

IC PERMISSIONS
Physical Violence: let's write this shit and get it gnarly, baby. Hickey's strategy for dealing with a fight is "stab it very fast." He isn't good at a physical fight, so I am perfectly fine having him get beat around if needed.
Mental Information: Hoo boy. So Hickey's brain is a bit of a mess thanks to the god delusions and the narcissism, but it's also a bit of a mess thanks to the possible definite lead poisoning. It's something that can and will lessen over time but the key phrase here is 'over time.'
Physical Affection: Who has two thumbs and isn't used to it, this guuuuy. Hickey can be a physical person if need be, but he won't immediately default to physical contact.
IC Triggers: food insecurity. I wouldn't necessarily count them triggers, but in an intimate situation, Hickey will try to direct people away from his ass (it's a big ol'mess of scars).
Relationships: Open to assumed friendships. Also open to romantic relationships, though only m/m (Hickey is gay). Let's plot things out ahead of time if we want to write a serious relationship because Hickey's a piece of work. Not open to relationships in Sing, as he is currently rat married.
Smut: I don't mind writing smut. However, like with the romance prompts, we'll need to plan some shit out ahead of time.

OPT-OUT

Hickey is the closest thing the show has to a human big bad—the true big bad is the colonialism we made along the way (and also the murderbear). Topics that can possibly come up in conversation with him, especially discussing his backstory, are
  • murder
  • self-mutilation
  • physical diseases / debilities (scurvy, lead poisoning)
  • racism towards Indigenous peoples
  • homophobia (received, not given. diversity win: your cannibal is gay)
  • identity theft
  • self-immolation & being burnt alive
  • intense physical violence (including flogging, gore, physical trauma to the level of being ripped in half by a supernatural bear monster, general body horror, animal mauling, etc.)
  • violence towards animals and animal death (dogs, said supernatural bear monster)
  • just general gross instances of 1840s sexism, colonialism, European values, etc. Hickey's not high class and a bit more enlightened in some regards (and 100% less Jesusy in all regards) but also what do you mean there are things like 'child labor laws' now.
  • survival cannibalism
